Newly hired employees are considered probationary employees for the first twelve months of employment. If, after this timeframe, the Department Supervisor is satisfied with the employee's work and progress, an employee's status will be changed from probationary to regular.
Health insurance for the employee is provided and paid for by the City through a self-funded program. The City of Hannibal/BPW Employees are insured under a self-funded insurance program. An employee may elect coverage for his dependents if he/she chooses. There is an additional charge to the employee for dependent health insurance. Dental insurance for the employee is provided and paid for by the City through a self-funded program. The City of Hannibal/BPW Employees are insured through the Right Choice Dental Plan. An employee may elect coverage for his dependents if he/she chooses. There is an additional charge to the employee for dependent dental insurance. Supplement Insurance, AFLAC is offered as additional coverage, to all City Employees and their dependents.
The City of Hannibal provides term life insurance policy for all active employees. This policy is paid in full by the City.
All Regular City Employees receive 13 paid holidays per year: New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King's Birthday, President's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
All Regular City Employees receive, a pension plan, vacation leave, sick leave and personal time.
